The Marianne Tobias Music Program lifts the spirits of patients, staff and visitors through weekly live music performances. Through the gift of an endowment and donation of a concert grand piano, the Marianne Tobias Music Program at Eskenazi Health is dedicated to providing high-quality performance music to patients, staff and visitors. Marianne Tobias, Ph.D., was a resident musicologist, accomplished pianist, lecturer and program annotator for the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, who helped Eskenazi Health launch the namesake program in 2013.

The piano, located in the Eli Lilly and Company Foundation Concourse on the Eskenazi Health downtown campus, is accessible to the public 24 hours a day and has been played by world-class musicians and amateur music lovers alike. Performances are free, open to the public and live-streamed to patient rooms in the Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital.

Past performances have featured: renowned soprano Angela Brown, Latin jazz ensemble Pavel & Direct Contact, Middle Eastern music ensemble Salaam, string trio Time for Three, the American Pianists Association finalists, and members of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra.

Salaam

Dates: Apr. 24, 2024

The Marianne Tobias Music Program will feature Middle Eastern music ensemble Salaam on Wednesday, April 24, at 12:00 p.m. in the Eli Lilly and Company Foundation Concourse.

Salaam, a word in Arabic meaning peace, uses both modern and traditional string and percussion instruments to delight audiences with an expansive mix of traditional and original Middle Eastern music. Salaam has performed throughout the United States, recorded seven albums, and been featured on National Public Radio’s All Things Considered.

This concert will be broadcast live and viewable from all televisions on the Eskenazi Health downtown campus, including patient rooms, on channel 17.

Lind Yu-Picard, violin, and Dr. Phoenix Park-Kim, piano

The Marianne Tobias Music Program is celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander month by featuring a piano and violin duo, comprised of Dr. Phoenix Park-Kim and Linda Yu-Picard, on Wednesday, May 1, at 12:00 p.m. in the Eli Lilly and Company Foundation Concourse.

Linda Yu-Picard is an Indianapolis-based violinist who performs regularly with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra. Pianist Dr. Phoenix Park-Kim is a professor of piano at Indiana Wesleyan University and regularly performs as soloist and chamber musician locally and abroad. This performance will feature spring-themed music as well as selections by Asian composers.

Jennifer Page, flute, and Allison Vickery, piano

The Marianne Tobias Music Program will feature a flute and piano duo, comprised of Jennifer Page and Allison Vickery, on Wednesday, May 15, at 11:30 p.m. in the Eli Lilly and Company Foundation Concourse.

Flutist Jennifer Page is a freelance artist in the greater Indianapolis area where she maintains an active private studio and performance schedule. Jennifer holds a Bachelor of Music Performance from the University of Indianapolis and a Masters in Music Performance from Butler University, where she studied with Karen Moratz, principal flutist with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. Jennifer’s portfolio of work includes the positions of adjunct professor of music at the University of Indianapolis, Marian University, and IUPUI.

A graduate of the University of Indianapolis, pianist Allison Vickery manages her own private studio of beginning and advanced level piano students. As a frequent performer and collaborator in the Indianapolis area, Allison holds a staff accompanist position at Butler University and is a regularly featured musician of Classical Music Indy.

The Marianne Tobias Music Program will feature an Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra string quartet on Wednesday, May 8, at 12:00 p.m. in the Eli Lilly and Company Foundation Concourse.

Founded in 1930, the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra is one of the leading orchestras in the nation with its commitment to artistic excellence and its ambitious approaches to music education, performance, and collaboration. The orchestra provides an extensive selection of musical programs inside and outside its historic Hilbert Circle Theatre home. This performance will feature violinists Vincent Meklis and Melissa Deal, violist Lerryn Schaefer, and cellist Nick Donatelle.

Becky Archibald Trio

The Marianne Tobias Music Program will feature the Becky Archibald Trio on Wednesday, May 22, at 12:00 p.m. in the Eli Lilly and Company Foundation Concourse.

Becky Archibald is an award-winning pianist, composer, recording artist, and educator. An Anderson native, and a graduate of Anderson University, Becky holds a Master’s degree in Piano Performance from California State University at Long Beach. Her life took a new direction when she wrote a piano piece for her mom’s birthday in 1997—her first composition. Since then, Archibald has written over 200 compositions and has released 5 piano CDs.
